The need of a God
My mother fasts once a week, sometimes twice. Both my parents have the first meal of their day only after worshipping the Lord.My name, in itself should reveal the extent of religious beliefs I have been brought up in.
Like every other child that I have known,I was also introduced to the reward system in the name of God.The concept of virtue and sin, hell and heaven ,the past and the after life.
We have always been conveyed this concept of equilibrium. The belief in the works of "Karma".This idea of vengeance gives so much hope to the one who was wronged.Yet,it also reveals their helplessness and inability to take actions. The phrase, "Unko unka Bhagwaan dekhega" has been a rock to the poor, vulnerable section of the society who are aware of the corruption, the malice that is inflicted on them on daily basis. They let go,internalize and accept it as a part of life by holding on to this very rock of faith.Taking actions would backfire. They cannot afford to not earn even for a single day.If not this rock, how else would they ever make peace with themselves?
Javed Akhtar in his recent interview, explained atheism. He narrated the difference between believe and faith.Believe is something that is based on fact, while faith is just our choice of believing knowing fully well that proof of it might never be established.
I agree with his concept of using logic in our decisions and the stupidity of religions. How they preach peace but their own origin have spilled so much blood.
But at the same time ,it has always been that "leap of faith" that we have taken ,at some point or the other that has defined our life altogether.I have both fallen and flown after those leaps. But,in almost all cases ,I would have regretted not trying.
Probably man invented God to explain the unexplained,to hold someone accountable,to influence masses,to seek forgiveness for his wrongdoings-where he can get rid of his dark past and forget about it to repeat the same mistakes, and to derive hope from.
We are so uncomfortable accepting our own freedom of choice that we rush to be in control of things and people whom we perceive to be mysterious.
Hence, most surely, religion would never see an end in this world. For ,when you would be successful in defying the concept of God as we know at present, their would rise another species of it in form of idealism and new cults.
.
We would then again divide ourselves under those newer beliefs as per our convenience. And our future generations would inherit it,debate and fight over it.God truly never dies. Its a Phoenix that will keep on rising from it's own ashes.
Lovely read!
